Basil Athanasiadis

Tear from the Moon, is my first work for the 20-string koto completed just before my arrival in Japan for my post-doctoral fellowship in 2010. One of the main characteristics of this work is its improvised-like character where irregularity and intuitive treatment of the music material prevails over the music development and structural organisation. Another important feature is the employment of a fairly limited timbral pallet and the lack of extensive virtuosic statements, a reference to the wabi-sabi principle of ‘less is more’
