Faded Shonorities is inspired by the sounds of the Japanese sho and the gagaku music of Japan. Throughout the work there is a strong focus on the polyphonic textures of gagaku (which differ fundamentally from the Western polyphony), the lack of large-scale dramatic gestures, the rhythmic elasticity and the non functional harmony.
